One probable reason for infertility is inadequate sperm count. Oligospermia or low sperm count can happen due to a variety of reasons like hormonal problems, infected semen, infected prostrate, varicocele, anabolic steroids, smoking, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, and even radiation. Here are some ways to increase your sperm count:
- Go organic- Avoid processed foods as well as other products such as deodorants and cosmetics. Also, avoid pesticides and toxic chemicals.
- Opt for nutrient-rich foods rich in vitamin C, zinc, selenium, folic acid, and omega-3 fatty acids. Include foods like flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, Brazil nuts, sesame seeds, chia seeds, green leafy vegetables, beans, broccoli, tomatoes, and oranges. You can also include nutritional supplements after consulting with a dietitian.
- Say NO to plastic. Avoid using containers and other items made of plastic like bottles and boxes to reduce your exposure to xenoestrogen- environmental estrogen.
- Avoid wearing tight briefs or boxers.
- Do not take hot baths and avoid saunas. They are known to affect testicles and are detrimental for normal sperm production.
- Manage stress levels. Stress is known to interfere with hormone levels that help produce sperms.
- Avoid alcohol and tobacco.
- Stay off anabolic steroids and drugs.
- Keep your weight in check.
